Hi folks. This is your yearly reminder to go along...

Hi folks. This is your yearly reminder to go along and update or add your entry within my project spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12sTu7RT-s_QlAupY1v-3DfI1Mm9NEX5YMWWTDAKHLfc/edit And, anyone new here: (give it a week for everyone to update their entries, then) go and look, to see what's going on in the future of programming/coding space! (Please don't advertise the URL in case it gets vandalised by trolls: it's on my account and I've not been bothered to enact a more secure solution yet!)

This reminds me that I found myself wondering what if anything to do with https://futureofcoding.org/collaboration. I should submit a PR to take out Teliva since I don't work on it anymore. Seems a bit empty besides the spreadsheet.

I like the "encouraging collaboration" aspect. Shame we're all so determinedly working on our own projects that we find this hard, and to an extent, talking across each other and having blind spots to stuff that doesn't match our own views - I'm guilty of that and trying to unwind it in myself.
k
I used to feel the same way, but I now see the siloing as a strength. Multiple ideas are more resilient. Siloing gives a delicate early idea an opportunity to become what it can be before it's subject to harsh evaluation. It also has an opportunity to change the author. I had to figure out for myself why Mu is a bad idea before I was able to better appreciate the projects of others. That process can't be rushed. This is why the collaboration page feels a bit anachronistic to me. It fits how we want to work but not how we work. The way we actually work is wise; we would do well to shape our desires to that reality.
d
Hmm. OK! 😁
k
Now let me go replace the Mu/Teliva columns in your spreadsheet with a new one for Freewheeling Apps.
The secondary ordering key is start year. Do you mean ascending or descending order?
d
The idea was to have the big old projects to the left, and the one-person projects started just now on the right
Don't worry, I sometimes drop by and clean up!
You may want to put Mu/Teliva on the far right alongside other "archived" projects
You can measure your project's age how you like, and include previous manifestations of similar ideas. Don't need to start from zero if that seems unjust!
I'm saying all this without looking at what you've done! 😄
k
Yeah I already moved Mu/Teliva to the right. Moved Leibniz to the left, roughly estimated where to add my current project. Feel free to move it around further!
Is it accurate to say this spreadsheet is for FoC in particular? I've been taking into account how active people are here. I would even take out stuff like Dynamicland since we have no authors of it here. (And it doesn't even seem to desire collaboration.)
Basically nobody should be creating a column for someone else, ever, if the goal is highlighting collaboration opportunities. I'd even take out archived/dormant projects.
d
Well I quite like having non community projects in there. Reference, comparison, relevance to the community.
