Did anyone here ever use the #CFQUMT7M3 channel? For some reason, the Slack App that powered it (Donut) seems to have stopped working. I took a look the Donut site, and it seems we're well past the limit of the free tier. I never used the #CFQUMT7M3 channel. If anyone would like to revive it, or set up some similar alternative, that'd be great. Otherwise, I think we should close the #CFQUMT7M3 channel.

I used it for a bit, but I won't miss it. Honestly we could probably do something similar without it, if we really want to.

I have met many really amazing people through the 1-on-1s channel. I would love to have a new channel where people have to join in again, or some sort of new opt-in functionality to get less misses

I enjoyed the 1-1s. Did two of them plus a locals hangout, but have lost the thread of it during the pandemic

i would also like it if we figured out a way to continue them

Suggestions welcome. It'd be nice to have something that didn't rely on a Slack plugin. Perhaps... • At the start of the month, someone posts to the channel something like "Anyone who wants to do a 1-on-1 this month, reply with your @username" • A week later, someone copies all the replies, uses a regex to grab the @names, and throws them into a simple script or JS page that randomly pairs them up. • That person posts another top-level message with the resulting pairs, and then it's up to those paired folks to get in touch via DMs and work out a time for a video chat That all would be fairly easy to do with basically zero effort and zero cost, and it's the sort of thing that we could build simple automations around if someone got the itch. Would that accurately recreate the 1-on-1s experience? (Since I've never done it, there might be details I'm missing) Are there variations on the format we might like to consider while rolling our own solution?

I mean, there are several features in donut that I think we'd be missing out on by trying to roll our own. If the cost isn't too high, then we might be able to share the cost among members and/or sponsors.
Main features are that donut allows you to specify ice breakers and has tools for managing no-shows
Donut also actually starts the conversation between pairs and checks in occasionally to see who has met up. From my experience, I would have forgotten to pair if it weren't for the reminders

@Cole The cost is roughly $1/month per person in the channel (whether they participate or not).
I think I've figured out a way that we can proceed on the Donut free plan. Working on that now. @Cole You mentioned the conversation starters — we aren't able to customize those unless we pay. Do you still thing I should leave them enabled? They seem kinda... basic.

I don't have a strong preference for or against some basic conversation starters.

Eg: "Odyssey vs. Zelda?" — not sure how many folks here play Assassin's Creed

Either person can cycle the question
