I recently listened to this: The interview is very interesting, even if the host is a bit strange and self centered. They reach the point where they talk about LLM's and the host is like "its just too good" But then andrew mcluhan says this is my LLM ( points to his own brain) and this is my claude( points to his pencil) Andrew is like a soft and calm voice trying to advocate for better relationship with technology. Check out his twitter for some funny slogans. They briefly touch on privacy - its just too good. I felt reminded of the snipped before the dune movie where they actually show the story of the butlerian jihad What do you think?

Better not ruin my childhood memories by watching that again. Saw a funny comment under some Dune themed video gen recently, "You realize all the characters in that scene would canonically murder you if they knew you used a computer to make it."

I love the 1984 movie. there are some magical things to it! i was very surprised to find some years ago that extended version, which also included that nicely drawn prologue.

meta note — this discussion has had a lot of links pasted without any explanation or context. this has two issues: 1. i don't know what many of those links are about (eg: the HN and YT links). it'd be nicer for my experience reading your post if you had written a short description or copied the page title and made that the link. sometimes links will generate a rich preview at the bottom of the post, but those have bad UX problems so i usually remove them. can't rely on rich previews to add context. 2. if anyone ever tries to read this convo with a screen reader, they're going to have to listen to a lot of gobbledegook. in the future, please don't paste "naked" urls. write some text that somehow suggests what the link is, and then make that text the link. thanks.

I'd like to normalize using inline links like this, rather than posting bare URLs (ie where you see the http://yadda-yadda) — they're better for screen readers and generally more pleasant to look at, too. I think they also encourage better writing (but now we're getting into the weeds). So for future posts, I'd encourage you to add your links directly to the words that describe them.

Can we reject Parts of AI? — Mere months ago, I did not expect to find myself mostly lining up on the "burn it with fire" side, then again my feeble imagination absolutely failed to anticipate the abuses that I see daily. It's bad friends. So bad that when ranting to my sister the other night, she recognized drastic measures are in order: she recommended I find a venue that does open mic standup! What is this world coming to?
