This "buy Slack Pro or we terminate your posts" threat feels a bit like a gangster protection racket.
i
Where do you see that? They sent me an email recently, but I assumed that was because I was the admin. Did they send it to everyone?

Probably referencing

we see in every channel.

Ah yeah. The irony is that our most recent round of big discussions about what to use instead of Slack — and the countless, subtle tradeoffs therein — are now behind the fucking fog.

We have two archives, @Mariano Guerra’s and @Kartik Agaram's.

No it's not that one, @Justin Deal, it basically said that on 28th Jan all posts and attachments older than a year were going to be nuked. I can't see it now, so that's from memory, and my memory isn't 100%, so I would like someone to screenshot it if they see it!
k
I saw it too. Here it is from a different Slack I'm on. So the number isn't accurate for this Slack. I've also seen a similar ad on the left nav.
d
Yuppity! That's the one
k
Ah, it's back!

In case you're wonder what we'd be paying for if we chose to pay, here's some broken-ass CSS in my slack client right now.
After dismissing it, there's now this permanent banner in my sidebar. This is offensive.
d
I just did "Block elements" on that, thanks for the prompt!

@Ivan Reese said: "(Note to self: linen seems dead, should probably remove it)". But I see Linen is still capturing. I see posts from 2025 via the search. So, recommend not ditching it. Cheers!
i
Oh weird. Hmm. I find it doesn't load for me when I open it. Maybe it's just slow.
k
I haven't looked at it today, but what I observed last time was the frontpage doesn't show any posts, but you can search. So I imagine it's on some graceful trajectory of decay.
I kinda agree with the "dead" diagnosis. We can't run it ourselves, and there's nobody to talk to => don't be surprised if it grows ads or worse one of these days. Time to start routing around it.
