This reminds me of <http://www.carlopescio.com/2012/03/life-without-controller-case-1.html> and its sequel, which discuss an implementation to the sump pump problem that works well in OOP, an implementation that's common (and poor) in OOP, and the forces at work that drive people toward one or the other. It's a really fun read.
