Surprised it took you so long, @jonathoda šŸ˜„
So at risk of sounding like a broken record, how about we make a loose cooperative of User Liberators via, or within, here - just those of us aligned on this one axis?

I don't know how, but I am in!
d
new channel just for us crazee liberators?
or @jonathoda sets up a forum, cos he isn't keen on Slack.. or, he already has a ULF server on the Dark Web?

Working on it

I'm very interested as well though not working on user liberation directly. It's possible programmer liberation might trickle down from user liberation first.

@stevekrouse,@Stefan, @yairchu, @Tudor Girba, @wolkenmachine, @Clemens, @Mariano Guerra, @Kartik Agaram, @Max Kreminski, @Ivan Reese, @ibdknox, @Tim Swast, @nicolaerusan, @Stephen Sugden, @Paul Sonnentag, @Dinesh, @Peter Abrahamsen, @Jacob Sandlund, @Abhinav, @Bosmon, @Scott Anderson, @Adam Marks .. you all voted in my poll (https://futureofcoding.slack.com/archives/C5T9GPWFL/p1545216276372200) that you're working on "Programming languages or environments for everyone" - will you become activists in the User Liberation Front? šŸ˜„
i
Nay — different audience, different goals. But I do support the idea of "user liberation". I intend that anyone should be able to use the stuff I'm building, but most people wouldn't want or need to, since it solves a very particular problem having to do with communication media.

The word ā€œactivistā€ seems to require buying into a specific solution that you then go out to evangelize in the world. I’m still in the research phase along 3 fronts: • Trying to come up with a solution. • Tracking the solutions others come up with from similar goals. • Figuring out the right ways to evangelize a solution once I have it.

me too, I'm just being provocative for the fun of it! šŸ˜„
but projects aimed at non-techies as well as techies won the poll, so it makes sense to see if we can create a greater focus around that
should I republish a similar poll with better wording?

I like it. User liberation definitely my motivation. It feels so much like being trapped if you have no means to make changes to the software you rely on.

I'm a hipster user liberation front member
(before it had a name) šŸ˜›
m
definitely in favor of user liberation here! I’ve also been using the related label ā€œpersonal computationā€ (as in https://twitter.com/maxkreminski/status/1121174498533732352) for some of my own work in this direction

@jonathoda having seen the phrase in context, "user liberation front" as a term works.
