Is anybody here in the L.A. area? I’m interested in starting a Future of Coding meetup in L.A.

I created a group in SF using meetup.com and it works quite well.

@David Broderick Yeah I was thinking meetup.com would be a good start. What kind of format was your meetup in and how did you find participants? I go to a Haskell meetup and I know there's a few people that might be interested. I think the hardest part is keeping their interest. Could you share some of your experiences?

Meetup.com is the best way to get started. Meetings last two hours, which works out well. And you're right, keeping interest (and focus during discussions) is difficult. One way I've addressed that is to have demos or discussion topics. For example, we spent multiple meetings going Jonathan Edwards list of IDE's and programming environments throughout history. That was a surprisingly fertile locus for discussion. Expect things to start small (in the beginning it was often just me and one other person) but it will grow.
