Yes, the MOOC is a good way to start. The graphical nature of Pharo makes the video lectures particularly helpful. I did the last session (October 2018) and then continued with the Pharo books.

The main problem that Pharo beginners face today is that all books and courses are based on outdated versions of Pharo. The current stable release, Pharo 7, looks quite a bit different from Pharo 5 that is used in the MOOC. The differences are superficial, mainly esthetical, but still disturbing for newcomers.
