I’m constantly dismayed by developers seeing one way to do things and then it’s seen as the only way things can be. The latest example is you want to do test-driven development of a new system? “cucumber is the only way to go”. Just imagine if they saw morphic and e-toys in squeak, and then learned about cucumber after that.

Do you have any examples of what you mean by morphic or e-toys impacting someone’s idea about cucumber?
So first I’m shocked to find out there are people out there advocating for cucumber still 🙂 I thought I was the last one

Just imagine a small kid has played with scratch or e-toys. Now image that child’s disappointment if you forced them to write their code in a text editor and had to run it with something like cucumber… well that’s how I feel about it.

ohh I thought you were saying that you’d be able to build on ideas from those tools for a different approach
kind of similar to what @Pezo - Zoltan Peto showed earlier about Ascii art tests

@Scott Werner sorry, but there’s a huge company full of cucumber people.
I mean alternative representations would be good. I like things like smalltalk workspaces, mathematica workbooks?/notebooks? Project Jupyter looks good too. Anything “live” and interactive would be a step forward. Something like the Morphic UI would probably be a great starting point.

for me it seems like everyone in my local dev community have moved on from cucumber, so you’re definitely not alone 🙂
