Is there such a thing as a Slack-like chat service but where rather than text-based, exchanges are sketch and doodle based? I can imagine such a thing combined with a tablet+pen.

I’ve been dreaming of something just like this Miles for a few months now! I work as a Developer Advocate and I got an iPad + pencil last year for the explicit reason of being able to quickly share context with end-users trying to learn
I imagine the network effect is the biggest hurdle here, not enough people have doodle friendly devices 🤔

There are lots of shared whiteboard apps ... the extra I'm asking for is the chat-like conversational element.

I just came back to leave the same comment actually 😅 I realized you meant a chat / nested style convo interface with scribbles. I haven’t seen this after all

iMessage has doodling capability built into it, but I dont think that has taken off.. the UX aspect of it and the use cases for it seem a little complex. Mainly because of the stream nature of chat vs the in place nature of whiteboard/sketching models.

I’ve never used it, but this is a recent contender: https://www.muze.chat/ (https://apps.apple.com/app/id1439964290)

The things we do with computers tend to be inspired by things people used to do before computers. Before computers and the phone we wrote each other letters using text. Did people ever write letters with just sketches and doodles?

@Cole is a big proponent of explaining things over zoom with an ipad if you decide to make this app and want to do some user interviews
