It’s fun pulling these things apart. Mutation vs mutator vs mutability vs state vs value, etc. Feels like it would be a fun game at the pub, but I might just have a weird idea of fun!

@daltonb would you point to a some context that would make the quote meaningful?

I’m also too lost to project meaning to this quote. Perhaps an example of someone that isn’t the mutator but the state or vice versa could help us

@yairchu @daltonb After due consideration, I think it is just a witty reformulation of the classic “if you’re not paying for the product, you are the product”. In that case, sorry for not getting the joke 🙂 ! I did look up “hot take”; “An opinion based on simplistic moralizing rather than actual thought.“.. And yeah, I can absolutely see how even mentioning state/mutation in a FP context would equal moralizing 🙂 Now, being serious, I absolutely do consider fundamental concepts such as state and value essential in any language design, at the most fundamental level, but that shouldn’t detract from a good joke, so let’s enjoy the deep discussion topic at a later time, beer in hand or not 🙂 !

So is it a way of saying that there’s still mutation going on under the hood? Yeah we already knew that.
