It seems we've unfortunately had some spam coming in via the bridged Matrix rooms in the last few days. 😖 I have gone ahead and removed the spam messages and reported the accounts on the Matrix side. As a temporary measure, I have set all the Matrix rooms to invite only as well, which should prevent any new spam accounts from joining. If you do happen to notice any further spam coming in via Matrix, please feel free to tag me.

That's wild. Thanks so much, @J. Ryan Stinnett! Is there anything I can add to the site to help people get invites? Do they just need to be admitted by a mod after requesting to join, or do they need to request an invite through a side channel up front?

Hmm, that's a good question... At the moment, Matrix does not yet have the "request to join after mod approval" flow (though it's sorely needed and in progress), so it means they would need to request an invite from a mod out of band. I guess you could update the site to say something like: The Matrix bridged rooms are currently invite only as spam prevention measure. If you would like to join, please DM @jryans:matrix.org to request an invite.
