Hi everyone! I’m Katie, a software engineer from Sydney, Australia. I got introduced to this community because someone shared a video of my talk here (

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH0A2iujtY8

) about the building a visual programming interface (it’s not about Scratch as the thumbnail would have you believe), and a few people reached out to me from that! It’s awesome to find so many like-minded people who are working on cool things. 😁

Welcome! Yes, you'll find quite a few folks here are keen on visual programming. And those who aren't, well, they're very accommodating of us VPL enthusiasts.
k
Haha, we are tolerated I see. 🙂

I loved your talk. And I'm not even a huge VPL person. :)

Hey, I just saw your video on making JavaScript & HTML more directly accessible. I thought it was great! I was thinking it would be great if you joined FOC, so it's great to see you here!
k
I am very skeptical of VPL, but nevertheless enjoy good demos such as @Katie Bell's because there's always something to learn from them about UIs in general.

Hi! I'm pretty skeptical about VPL, but this was an interesting take. Have you ever looked into JetBrains MPS? It's intended for creation of DSLs, so maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but it implements some of your ideas: https://www.jetbrains.com/mps/

Hi Katie and welcome! It is cool that you join this Slack. 🙂 Your tool is inspiring and your video is great, I really enjoyed viewing it. Your interests are a perfect fit for this discussion space, and I can't wait to read your thoughts and see where Splootcode will lead!

Welcome! I enjoyed your video. I liked the focus on keyboard navigability.

@Florian Cäsar I have looked at JetBrains’ MPS, it’s very cool. Sometimes there’s domain data or logic that’s easier to express with a UI rather than code. I think a fully graphical interface makes it easier to add that kind of feature, but I like that JetBrains has made it work with existing tools and flows. 🙂
And thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Looking forward to more discussion 🙂

G'day Katie 🙂 you're the first fellow Australian I've found in this group. There should be more of us!

I've been doing JS for 15+ years and just learned about precedence here:

Hahaha yeah, it’s not exactly intuitive!
