This is a particular flavor of random for people that like low level things. In particular probably @Robert Butler and @Kartik Agaram.
This showed up on Hacker News this morning. It looks like the 8-bit guy going to start selling his retro homebrew computer design either as a finished product or a kit soon: https://www.commanderx16.com/forum/index.php?/home/

I've been following the Commander X16 project for a while. It's a pretty cool project and in many respects is similar to what I'm doing. The X16 project is asking can we build a C64 with new parts? I'm asking what would something like the C64 look like today if we threw everything out and designed it from the ground up with a focus on building a transparent computer. I'll 100% be getting a X16 if I can afford it when it comes out.

@Robert Butler re: "I'm asking what would something like the C64 look like today if we threw everything out and designed it from the ground up with a focus on building a transparent computer." tbh, I find your premise far more interesting than his! But I am a sucker for these kinds of toys. I'm tempted to buy one also lol.

i also find Robert’s premise more interesting… but literally began salivating when i read the description. it comes with a ps/2 port. i could literally buy a used model M and connect it directly…

+1 to all the salivating over it. 🤤 I think there is a very nice place in the world for both the X16 and uCISC 😁
