Very interesting thread from andy matuschack on ""Export considered harmful" Because software rarely operate on "files in folders" anymore, "export" is increasingly the way software exposes data. But usually you don't want a dead snapshot; you want to "use this data elsewhere"—which requires repeatedly exporting & reconciling." here is the starting tweet: https://twitter.com/andy_matuschak/status/1452438176996347907?s=20 and here is the whole conversation : https://threadreaderapp.com/convos/1452438176996347907

If it's an ad supported service then they are unlikely to provide anything that let's you avoid the ads, like the API you'd actually want. So a clunky Export function is probably the best you can hope for. In the current economic paradigm I think these things might have to be built antagonistically, like a web scraper.

I like it like "hacking" in the original sense of re-purposing
to change "the current economic paradigm" I really like this approach/attempt: https://twitter.com/iam_preethi/status/1449371629411356675?s=20
