I'm beyond excited to share this talk, Introducing Patchwork-26, from my co-laborators at Ink & Switch. Patchwork is a local-first space for working on docs (think google docs or notion), but it's built out of tools (bits of code that edit docs), which are also docs. Look, malleable software is trippy okay? But also, everything is backed by Automerge, so you also get fine-grained interactive version control and realtime collaboration. It's a big, weird software party. Hosted by @Peter van Hardenberg, featuring a variety of demos: • @chee and @Mimi Reyburn collaborate on a doc about, you know, various long fuzzies, using different tools that interoperate and can be shared easily. • @Paul Sonnentag rebuilds Embark in user space using these kit-bashable cards that compose new behaviour on the fly • @Orion Reed goes wild with bidirectional lenses • @grjte talks about the security model • @Alessandro Warth made a canvas-based video editor which uses physical space in a novel way • @John Mumm made a canvas-based songwriting and arrangement tool with reified transforms (like "inversion") • @grjte built a lil Folk Computer to bring Patchwork to the real world • and finally, the witch-hat hacker ZERO VOID talks a lil about her work on Tenfold, a collaborative art project which, as a close personal friend of ZV I can assure you, has nothing at all to do with Patchwork. This is a whirlwind tour of the past several years of secretive work within Ink & Switch, and everyone at the lab has helped out in some form at some point. Please enjoy this reveal! (and direct all complaints about the video edit to me, hehe)

the Material music demo 🤯
"remote code enjoyment" 😂 (1h6m)
Had to rewatch the data portability and lenses part. I'm very inspired by projectional editors and similar!

Wow, very cool stuff. Took me a while to get past the notion that it's not purely a google docs / notion alt, but much more. Looking forward to playing around with it and groking it more.

yeah! they've been funding our work on patchwork for the last year as part of their SGAI programme
