Yeah, this is what McCarthy was thinking about when I got to know him in the 80s. It owes as much to John Searle as to anything in computer science. There have been a bunch of implementations over the years, including a recent one in Clojure by Carin Meyer (gigasquid on the ’net).

I have the Elephant paper on my desktop right here. Right in the middle. Funny you mention Searle @Jack Rusher. I've been channelling him something powerful these last weeks. It's all about this long letter I almost have wrapped up. Thought I had it done, but it wasn't quite done with me. (I was thinking about your geometric algebra Strange Loop talk, was it two days ago, but I guess it's not going to come up in the end.)
