I should introduce myself! These are my first posts in the slack. I joined a few months ago and have been lurking, trying to catch the vibe. I’ve always been fascinated by tech, but it’s never been something I’ve done for a living. Recently I’ve been thinking about changing that. I feel inspired, knowing this place exists. That so many people are imagining a better future and working to make it become reality. I’ve been thinking a lot about the health of the web. Trying to understand what went wrong. How did we get here? How do we get out? I watched a

talk that Scott Jensen gave at the Ubuntu Summit

In December. That’s how I discovered Ink and Switch and Local-First and I’ve been down the rabbit hole ever since. Learning from Douglas Engelbart, Alan Kay and other pioneers of computing. Modern technologists like Bret Victor, Maggie Appleton, Orion Reed, and Alexander Obenauer. I’ve been soaking up as much as I can. I’m researching, writing, sketching, prototyping, and dreaming. I don’t know how I’ll be able to contribute, but I’d like to try. I have training from the Austin Center for Design. The closest analog to what I’m doing is maybe HCI or Design Research? Right now I’m mainly thinking about the project I wrote about in this reply, but I’m also interested in ATProto, Strudel, P5.js, and really just building a more healthy and open and creative web.

My own "centre of gravity" is somewhere and somewhat aligned with I&S, including Obenauer who is related to them. Here's an article I wrote with a number of similar projects: https://duncancragg.substack.com/p/the-data-first-movement
Enjoy exploring all that!
