Hej! I've always been fascinated by computers ever since I saw the first C64 in my brothers room at the age of 6. Started programming, as most did then, straight away. The first 3 years was basically just 10 print "Mattias"; 20 goto 10. But eventuelly learned for loops, if statements, and transitioned to Amiga and AMOS. Since I wanted to code demos as I found the demoscene the place to be, I quickly picked up assembler and watched bits switch in the debugger for a few years, creating blitter and copper magic, constantly being amazed by how arithmatic and pushing data in memory could cause such magical things happen on screen. Only much later (maybe age 13-14?) did I move to higher order languages such as Pascal and C, and when getting a PC (reluctantly) in 97, I slowly transitioned to C and C++. That was the start of a life long computing love affair. I kept coding computer graphics mostly until going to university studying computer science, learning the academic vocabulary around computing. At this point, computing was not the tricky part, but what you could do with it that was tricky and fascinating. I think that's what led me to doing a PhD in human-computer interaction, even though I failed the first HCI-class while at uni since it wasn't technical, and apparently people don't respond to bit pushing like a machine does. I am now an associate professor in interaction design at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. My academic life has consisted of designing, building, and studying everyday technology such as mobile social media, text messaging, wellbeing apps, wearable technologies, health apps. I'm looking at the effects of technology on everyday practices, trying to understand how technology shape the world, and how we can shape the world through technology. I'm teaching programming, design, and AI primarily. I'm currently investigating two related things: one is how the practice of programming, and what it means to instruct machines, is changing as a result of LLMs. The other is how LLMs may change the way we interact with computers, seeing an ontological shift of computing on the horizon. In my spare time i play with my kids, grow tomatoes, and enjoy the occasional read and listen to Bret Victor and Alan Kay. Been listening to FoC podcast for a year or so and enjoy it immensely.
