Now you're thinking with portals!
Okay, after getting past the absurdity / meme-ness of it, I think this is actually amazing. I shared a similar idea here, suggesting that you could use color instead of a variable name. But this idea of yours is way more compelling. You've made the identity of a variable dynamic and spatial in a really clever way.
@Elliot ā€” you might dig this

Reminds me a tad of Boxer (https://boxer-project.github.io/), but perhaps only because there's literally a box there in the video... šŸ˜…

I do love how it smooths out the concept of having the two boxes contain the same thing.

@Ivan Reese Thanks! I really appreciate your comment. I called them portals for the longest time so Iā€™m glad the vibe is there.

@Ivan Reese Thanks! I do dig this; It is inspiring. @Robin I made something related:
@Robin I like how tangibly the two boxes are "the same": they hold the exact same thing visually, even small readjustments of the contents via the mouse are reflected in both. They are two different boxes in two different places on the screen, but they are made the same by their contents. The boxes are like variables in that they hold a symbolic/formal thing, but that symbol also has a visual relationship to the box unlike a variable. Its also cool that you can take the contents out of the box and put it in the other box. The interaction where the x is cropped in one box and comes out of the other box that you are interacting with is great.
Can't wait to see more of your explorations Robin!
