Hello! Would anyone be interested in an FoC book club? Here's what I'm thinking for structure (but very open to suggestions): • What: Read and discuss books about the history and future of programming, e.g. _The Dream Machine_, _A Small Matter of Programming_ • When: One hour meeting every other month on Zoom to discuss one book. Time TBD (timezones could be hard) • How: Anyone can nominate a book. Vote via Slack poll in #reading-together (or perhaps a new, dedicated channel)
I'm thinking if we have 10-15+ thumbs up on this message that's a critical mass. Could also nominate essays in addition to books!

What a great idea. I need to read Nardi.
I can’t find the poll?

Glad you're interested! I didn't make a poll yet—I wanted to gauge interest first then we can make a channel, start a nominations thread, open a poll, etc. I'm thinking we give it a week or so for folks to check Slack then get rolling if there's enough interest.

This sounds awesome! Excited for this reading list

I’m pretty sad that I don’t think that critical mass of 👍 will arrive. Why not do it anyway? I’m going to read Nardi’s HMC

Maybe half a dozen of us is enough for a one-off book club to start, then we can go from there... @Stephen De Gabrielle @Jasmine Otto @Jimmy Miller @Alex McLean @Jos Yule — what do you all think?
I’m going to read Nardi’s HMC
HMC?

I just finished The Mountain in the Sea, so i've got a reading-opening 🙂
j
Yeah I think that’s plenty. I’m all for it.

But I would prefer to start with _A Small Matter of Programming_ suggested in the top post

Awesome, let's do it! Should we create a dedicated channel for the book club or just use #reading-together? I'm happy to handle the organizer work of creating polls etc. but defer to others on Slack etiquette since I'm pretty new to FoC. Edit: this sounds like a question for #administrivia, so I asked there.

Just do it here. It’s pretty quiet. 1 thread per chapter
Oops I was tired. I meant in #reading-together 1 thread per chapter

Foc?

Future of Coding, sorry!
